“To be a star you must shine your own light, follow your own path and don’t worry about the darkness. For that is where stars shine the brightest”…anonymous
Toronto has been my home base all my life. The interesting thing is I love the sun and the warmth it brings and have always thought that I’m more of a southwest kind of gal. Winter is a tough time of year for me, especially on the grey days without sun.
From an early age, I’ve always loved words and my writing seemed to touch others. “I have the heart of a writer and the mind of a marketing person” and love balancing the right side creative brain, with the left side logical brain. I’ve always written. I cannot remember a time when I didn’t write.
And I was reading to anyone who would listen, from a very early age too. I’ve written everything from magazine articles to song lyrics and everything in between. As a conversational storyteller, I love to research, design and build stories. Music and song writing are passions that ignite me too.
I’m excited to share my first full-length book Confessions of a Middle-Aged Hippie! Written in the style of a memoir, I combine my sometimes crazy anecdotal life stories taken from my years in the entertainment industry, with my more serious stories of survival, from a lifetime lived with health issues. I honestly never saw myself as someone who would write a book, as I love creating short pieces and sending them out to share with the world.
The experiences that have come from writing the book have at times been challenging, especially going over and over my life stories, my biography. However, overall, the experience has been somewhat indescribable and is ironically…beyond words.
It makes me happy to know that I listened to my inner voice when that woman in the pool in Sedona told me about an amazing writing retreat where everyone wrote a book in eight days. Seriously…in eight days. Full story in the book!
My life has also been about learning to trust the power of my inner voice. Another strong theme is my persistence to maintain my individuality regardless of the cost. I love shifting paradigms; taking impossibilities and turning them into possibilities. That’s the ParadigmSkewer in me.
Like many of us, my journey has had me walking a truly unique, often lonely road. My story is about health and healing; about seeking and sometimes finding, and then seeking some more. About trusting my very strong intuition even when no-one else agreed with my point of view; and finding a way to survive when reality looked like it was against me. Reality isn’t always all it’s cracked up to be.
It’s amazing to hear people tell me I give them hope. It’s my observational way of looking at life and finding humour in all situations, that has defined my distinctive voice. I love a great conversation and sharing my stories. I love listening to people’s stories too. That is what life is all about. Our interwoven stories. People also tell me that when they read my writing, they feel like they are part of the conversation. That makes me smile.
My often offbeat humour, infused with my passion for new experiences and adventures, leads me to a new story almost every day of my life. I sincerely hope that by reading my stories, people begin to see that in life, there is always hope and always another way.
Among my favourite things are reading, writing, movies, art, traveling and astrology! Guess this makes me somewhat of a CulturePurveyor.
Being an air sign, (told you I love astrology), here’s one of my favourite quotes from fellow Aquarian Abraham Lincoln: “and in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”
I’m very grateful to be able to share my writing on the Huffington Post and Family Guiding.
Having transformed many health issues in my own life, I also work with people as a health and vitality consultant, aligned with an amazing team of health professionals. If you are ready to become the you you are longing to be, reach out and let me know how I can support you. Here’s to health, vitality and well being for all!
