Think Hippie Thoughts — Live Hippie Values

When I say the word “hippie”, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?

Did you say Sex, Drugs &  Rock ‘n Roll? You’re on track with the popularly held idea that hippie is a lifestyle only.

In fact, when I was writing my book Confessions of a Middle-Aged Hippie, my brother actually said to me, “You, know Beverley, you weren’t really a hippie.” Hmm. I was frankly stopped dead in my tracks and had to do some serious soul searching around it. I was sure I was a hippie at the core of who I am.

What I realized is that to me, hippie is a value system much more than a lifestyle. A value system birthed back in the mid to late ’60’s and one I believe is still alive today. Why? Because at the core of who we are as human beings, we all embody hippie values in our hearts and in our souls.

When I say: Peace, Love, Community, Spirituality, Organic Living, Consciousness, Sustainability, Gratitude, Meditation, Expression, Compassion, Transformation, Music, Art and Poetry, inevitably, regardless of their age or where they grew up; whether they’re a woman or a man, everyone says: “Wow, I’m a hippie!” And of course I smile at them and agree, because I truly know that we are ALL hippies and we all want to live our lives in a world with this value system.

See what you think when you watch my “Confessions” book trailer. I’d love to hear from you, which of the ‘hippie values do you embody in your life?
